I really wonder what Tamara Mellon and her team at Jimmy Choo was thinking when they agreed on a collaboration with UGG Australia. The boots look completely ridiculous and I can't imagine the shoe design house that produced my incredible 24/7 high heel collection would design such hideous looking boots.

While doing some research for an article on UGG's, I came across some interesting facts. The "ugg boot" is a type of shoe which UGG Australia, the brand, so cleverly marketed to the masses that had no clue that "ugg boots" were actually quite popular in Australia and New Zeland for decades.

According to the Australian government, "ugg boots" simply refer to any boot that is made from sheepskin. UGG Austrlia is actually and American owned company that manufactures their boots in China.

Florence and The Machine Fashion Design Competition

I'm a huge fan of Florence and The Machine so had to post about this great opportunity. All you designers out there make sure to enter. It's a competition to design Florence’s stage outfit for her performance at the high profile ‘Terminal 5’ in New York. Florence will choose the winner and they will receive $500 cash, transportation to New York, and 2 nights’ accommodation at the Soho House NY to see Florence + the Machine perform. The winner will also meet Florence and the band backstage and receive a signed copy of their new album, Lungs.

As an editor I receive virtually every single new beauty product that comes out on the market. However, there are a few products that I have been using for years or just got to have after trying it on at the store and actually purchase myself. Here are a few of my latest buys from the last week, I had to stock up for fashion week of course!

Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick In Beach
I love shimmer and I am always looking for ultra shimmery eyeshadow. I haven't found any other shimmery shadows that are as beautiful an sophisticated as Bobbi Brown's Shimmer bricks. I use it as an eyeshadow mostly but if I am going to an event I will swipe it over the tops of my cheekbones for an extra pop. I use Mac's painterly paint pot as a base/primer on the lids and the shimmer lasts literally all day. I also have to mention that I had my last shimmer brick for two whole years and the only reason I brought a new one was because I accidentally dropped it extremely hard onto my hardwood floor and the brick broke into pieces. So it just goes to show you the longevity of this product which is an amazing buy at around $38.00 from Saks.

Makeup Forever HD Foundation
I used to use MAC studio sculpt as a foundation last month but it ruined my skin and I broke out severely. So I had to switch foundations and thought I would give Makeup Forever's HD foundation another shot because I used to use it a few years ago but dismissed it because I felt that it was too sheer. However, after trying it again I am very happy with how natural it looks. I like full coverage foundations and this is definitely more moderate coverage but looks great when paired with the pan stick concealer.

I am actually trying the pan stick by Makeup Forever for the first time, and might I say I am in love! It covers every flaw without looking cakey and stays put after a good dusting of HD powder. Sephora does not carry this product so you will have to visit the Makeup Forever store located on E 12th street at Fifth avenue. The boutique is cute, nothing special but they do offer a free makeup application with the purchase of $60.00 worth of makeup so when buying these products make sure to do it before a night out with the girls or a big event so you can get a free professional makeup look by a Makeup Forever artist.

MAC Pro Lipstick In Milan Mode
Pink lips have become kind of like my signature but finding a classy hot pink is hard to do but I think I've accomplished the impossible. I am all over Milan Mode by MAC it is a beautiful shade of pink that packs just enough of a punch without being gaudy. The regular MAC counters do not carry it so you will have to go to a pro store. I personally purchased mine from the MAC Pro store in Times Square.

Le Smoking
Helmut Newton’s stunning image of a woman smoking in a Yves Saint Laurent ‘le smoking’ suit in his 1975 photography series signifies the effect of YSL on fashion history. While women were wearing Chanel LBD’s or evening gowns, Yves Saint Laurent was creating the ‘le smoking’ jacket, one of the most controversial fashion creations, as androgyny was virtually unheard of. Often credited with liberating women in their wardrobes, the jacket, which emerged in YSL’s 1966 Pop Art collection, was black, high-waisted and satin, and worn over a white blouse. It soon became a statement piece for the stars, including style icons Catherine Deneuve and Bianca Jagger, and has continued to be included in Yves Saint Laurent’s collections to date, if not in different forms. The signature look has been incorporated into a jumpsuit, dress and trench coat over the years, and has become an integral part of every collection, no matter if Saint Laurent is headed by Alber Elbaz, Tom Ford or, most currently, Stefano Pilati. There may not have been a women’s suit if it wasn’t for ‘le smoking’ jacket, so when it comes to clothing classics, Yves Saint Laurent is always bound to be mentioned.
Chanel Handbag
The Chanel 2.55 handbag is yet to go out of vogue. Ever-stylish, the quilted handbag is on the top of every woman’s wish list, from the day it was created in 1955 (which, incidentally, the bag is named after). One of the reasons the bag is so internationally adored is the way Chanel pieced it together; every piece of fabric that makes the bag has a story behind it, making it almost an autobiography of Chanel’s life. Chanel grew up in a convent which inspired much of the design- for instance; the lining is brown, matching the colour of her convent uniforms and the shoulder strap which was inspired by the caretakers of the convent who wore their keys from their waist, dangling much like the chains of the bag do. The inside zipped compartment was designed for Chanel to hide her love letters from her then lover, while the outside back flap was reserved for extra money. The front lock, named the ‘Mademoiselle lock’ symbolises her unmarried status, and differs to the double CC Chanel logo. To date women all over the world still buy the bag, most commonly the 50th anniversary edition names the Reissue 2.55.

Ray Bans
Ray Bans may have begun their sun-shielding life in the US Army Air Corps in 1937, but having gone from fashionable strength to strength, becoming an A-lister and fashionista favourite to this day. Although there are many variations of the Ray Ban, Wayfarers and Aviators are the style must-haves. Wayfarers have been dubbed the best selling sunglasses, which puts them on the list of design greats. The shape of the sunglasses was revolutionary, and took advantage of the then-recent invention of the plastic machine. They hit the height of their recognition in the noughties when celebrities such as Chloë Sevigny and Mary-Kate Oslen embraced the look, whether it was sunny or cloudy. Aviators were names after their tear-dropped shape, and have become iconic since the film Top gun, although they first hit fame in the 1960s. They are now usually adorned by style-lovers and celebrities, and have even recently been worn by Barack Obama on the cover of Ebony magazine.

Louboutin Shoes
Louboutin shoes are seen on the most hot-to-trot feet in the world, attracting glamour-pusses and icons like burlesque star Dita Von Teese into the shoes famed for their iconic red sole. Louboutin spent his early teen-hood watching cabaret acts, and instead of fantasising about the girls, simply adored the showgirl’s shoes and how undoubtedly high the stiletto heels would reach. Seeing the heels as the sexiest extension of a woman’s body, he was troubled by a sign in the Museum of Oceanic Art in Paris, which warned women not to scrape their heels on the floor. Infuriated, he set about on a style mission, to get every woman’s manicured toes in some beautifully designed shoes. However, when he sent his heels down the runway- there was something missing. Spotting his colleagues hot red Chanel nail varnish, a style-moment happened, and he added the famous red soles to every shoe he made. Every heel he creates is at least 4 inches high, making every woman feel like a show girl no matter what their job is.

Burberry Trench Coat
Considering Burberry is now one of the most fashionable designer brands, it will probably surprise most people that its original store was opened in the small town of Basingstoke in England, which is incidentally my hometown. Thomas Burberry invented the infamous gabardine fabric for the trench coats worn by British and French soldiers in WW1. It has since progressed to become the uniform of style icons Kate Miss and Alexa Chung after some style alterations- including epaulettes, straps and d-rings. In the 1900s director Roberto Menichetti brought a touch of the 1930s to the trench to revamp the design, but unfortunately this led to copycat designs. With Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany’s and Humphrey Bogart in Casablanca always likely to be popular in stylish film history, the trench is a design classic, and will never fail to appear in fall fashion seasons. -Isabella Stockwell

Haute Mimi Exclusive | The Dubai Fashion Scene

Dubai is one of the fastest emerging fashion capitals of the world, but with the likes of Paris and Milan having a much greater fashion history, many of us who haven’t been to Dubai know little about their style scene besides the glimpse revealed in the latest Sex and the City 2 film. With my aunt living in Abu Dhabi- a close by city- it seemed essential to find out from her where the best boutiques and shops in Dubai really are. My aunt travels around the world teaching English, but currently resides in Abu Dhabi, and her English rose style is often described as ‘farmer’ by her students. Her pupils are incredibly fashion conscious and even the teachers spend lunch breaks Googling designer handbags rather than planning lessons. Arriving to work in the Muslim attire of a burka or chador, the women quickly strip from their black robes to reveal beautiful and glistening dresses and sequined wedges.

Colour co-ordination is key, from the underwear to the stitching on the burka, every aesthetic detail is considered and matching. In fact, the women of Dubai will happily spend around $400 on a burka, and will usually have about ten in their wardrobes. And with more and more designers creating Muslim-inspired headwear, it is unsurprising that the likes of Gucci and Prada are now located in the fashion city of Dubai’s Emirates Tower, showing the popularity of European designer greats. The Villa Moda stocks Alexander McQueen, Miu Miu and Marini, but the best spots for fashion boutiques are the Village Mall and the Wafi Centre. The Village Mall is home to S*UCE (pronounced Sauce), a shop that is stylish from the interiors to the clothes, stocking not only designers such as Alexander Wang, 3.1 Phillip Lim, but also brand new local designers, mixing classic and contemporary chic into one store.

Alternatively, Wafi is home to A-lister favourite boutiques, including Tigerlily, a cosy style space offering the designs of Lamis Khamis and other red carpet designer loves. Valleydez is also centred in Wafi and is perfect if you love designer clothes, and even bears the name ‘Valley of Designers’. This is the ideal place for one-off designs and clothes from all over the world, adding a multi-cultural dimension to any wardrobe. Finally our last boutique for in-the-know style seekers in Marami, which supplies the work of Nicole Richie’s House of Harlow jewellery- a favourite of Jessica Alba, and the designs of ex-model , Tarina Tarantino who is becoming a hit with the fashion crowd of Dubai. Marami is located in the Dubai Mall and is great for finding individual touches to go with any outfit.

Judging by the exquisite designs walked down Dubai’s fashion week catwalk, the shopping-capital is the perfect place to have a tailor-made outfit created. The Meena Bazaar is said to be one of Dubai’s best spots for tailor-made clothes and materials, although Dream Girl, a close competitor, is the option for those of us who don’t want to spend too much money.

If you have been saving, then some of the top designers in Dubai’s stores must be visited. Showcasing her looks in their fashion week, Zeena Zaki for Julea Domani sent award-winning designs down the runway, which were inspired by the Victorian era. Old films and a pastel palette with ornate and frilly dresses won Zeena Zaki the Best Female Designer award by Prêt a porter. Another stunning collection was showcased by Shrekahnth, who fused Arabian and Asian designs together to create graphic prints stimulated by the Middle Eastern icon Ibn Batutta. Aly Fawaz for Contessa Haute Couture embraced draping to form outfits in perfect geometrical and symmetrical shapes, using a palette almost good enough to eat. However, a personal favourite is Sa Saie Haute Couture, headed by a collection of high-end eveningwear and wedding gown designers, who created an eclectic mix of shape, form and colour to produce lively and show-stopping dresses. The designer dubbed the one to look out for is Khalid by Studio Khalid, who scooped up the prize of Best Emerging Talent at the Dubai Fashion Week. For those of us who like to not only to wear fashion, but read it too, the hottest fashion magazines in Dubai are Alhan! and Red hot, and don’t be surprised if top Dubai model Jhana is the face of any fashion magazine.

It's quite obvious that I am in love with designer clothing, handbags and accessories. What I'm definitely not in love with are the huge price tags that accompany them, so I am always looking for new ways to save on coveted designer digs. I love sample sales but you don't really get the kind of steep discounts that they promise to have. That's why I am hooked on fashion based live online auction sites. You can snag a Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Fendi, Valentino and more for literally ten bucks, sometimes more sometimes less. I really thought it was too good to be true but after trying it out I am seriously addicted to these fashion auction sites and wanted to share my favorites since there are so many out there. I am mesmerized by this image. I just love it. While there is a lot going on, there really isn't ... and I am right there in that house walking down the stairs, feeling at home.

The background may seem noisy — the wallpaper, plant, chair, and even the cats, all providing pattern and texture — however, the model, in her solids (BTW, did you notice she's wearing watermelon?), is comfortable and at ease in her surroundings.

Miles Aldridge (photographer) has an amazing eye for detail. From the shadows cast on the wall to the cat in mid-motion to the chair playing off the wallpaper and the plant playing off the green dress. Good stuff.

Lash extensions are the secret of celebrities and glamour girls alike so six weeks ago I went to see Lash Extension Extraordinaire, Courtney Akai to get in on this haute beauty trend. I never had lash extensions before but always wear strip lashes to add extra drama to my eyes (I also use Revitalash religiously at night to amp up my lashes which are already long to begin with). So I figured lash extension would save me the trouble of applying false strip lashes everyday and would look much more natural. The moment I walked into Courtney's lash boutique I was welcomed by girly pink walls, boudoir inspired furniture and sultry background music. i was in girly heaven! After choosing the look I wanted to go for, (dramatic, of course) Courtney cleaned off any excess eye makeup I had on, and taped down my bottom lashes so they wouldn't catch onto the surgical grade adhesive used to apply the extensions. After the preparations she went to work applying one extension at a time, the absolutely painless procedure can last from 1-3 hours. After the extensions were placed Courtney gave me a fabulous oxygen blast to the eye area to cool off the adhesive and comfort the eyes.

The end results were amazing! My eyelashes looked extremely long, lush and glamorous yet natural. It has been six whole weeks since I last visited the salon and I have to say my lashes are still going strong. The lashes will fall off naturally depending on your own eyelash hair growth. The CEO of the company Federivo Alvarez Castillo certainly isn’t shy of fashion knowledge, having assisted in the setting-up of companies including Mango and Bowen. A history of graphic design will certainly have aided the individual décor of the shop, which started in Soho and is soon to be launched in the fashionable-cities of Paris and Milano.

The Italian brand with the Spanish name for ‘black label’ appeals to the casual side of the city-slicker. Although there is formal wear, including purple vichy shirts and dark heather and grey pinstripe suits, the polo and sportswear range is the most defining of the brand.

The up-and-coming PE 2010 collection is inspired by bien vivre, polos, vintage cars and the military. This translates into biker gear, desert boots, cargo pants and green hues. The brand manages to twist the strict formalities of the inspirations to make them modern and trendy. The ready-to-wear collection encompasses a sports ambiance, with poplin shirts and grosgrain collars on the jersey polo tops as well as simple black or white tops with the brands motif.

Gurang first appeared at New York fashion week in February of last year, following his first runway show in a tent at Bryant Park. The Singapore-born designer has built up a worldly design knowledge after several years of travel and working for numerous stylists and design houses. Gurang has been celebrated for his precise lines, earning him a Fashion Fund Award and a nomination at the 2010 CDFA Swarovski Womenswear Awards. The designers latest collection takes visually beautiful yet also wearable designs to another level, utilising a monochrome and gold palette to create a host of clear-cut dresses.

The inspiration for the collection draws from the little beauties in life, such as his mum’s YSL Rive Gauche perfume back in the 1970s. Sometimes designers inspiration is hard to see in an outfit, but Gurang sets the mood of the collection clearly, translating the stripes of the perfume packaging onto the pattern on his outfits.

The Singaporean also pulls stimulation from the way in which New York women dress themselves, which is probably why his designs can translate so well into every women’s wardrobe. Whenever I walk by the Lush store on Herald Square, I'm always lured in by the sweet, sugary scented bath and body products. I like Lush because they're extremely unique and stay true to their roots. I get excited every time I use their products because they're so unconventional yet extremely effective. Here are some of my new favorites from Lush that I am raving about:

I absolutely love taking bubble baths. hence "The Comforter" bath bomb is such a must have for me. It smells of yummy blackcurrant berries and definitely offers comfort after a long hard day of say..shopping! You simply break off a chunk and drop it into your warm bath and it will start to work its magic. Check it out here.

I've smelled all of the soaps available at Lush and my favorite is the "Rock Star". It is a vanilla candy scented all natural soap with fabulous moisturizers. Check it out here.

I wear lip gloss all the time so smooth lips are a must. I usually use the old home remedy of mixing lemon juice with sugar but I've been using the Lush Bubble Gum Lip Scrub after recently discovering it. Texas-born Preston first gained fame after becoming a finalist in Bravo’s hot young talent competition, Top Designer. He may have bowed out of the show in third place owing to a lack of ‘wow-factor’, but that didn’t lower the public opinion of his designs, in fact, 64% of viewers felt he should have won.

Nowadays Preston is a far-cry from not having the wow-factor, with Janice Dickenson’s Modeling Agency, iCandy bar, the Green Condo Complex in Hollywood and the design of celebrity homes filling in his portfolio, it’s no wonder the interior designer is still successful years after his TV stint. When asked what drew him into interior designs, he told us it was ‘my father and my own aspiration to create things for people and their families which drastically changes their life.

Preston flourishes when it comes to creating an atmosphere of grandeur and extravagant elegance, feeling it only possible to create the most stunning room compilations by mixing only designer interior designs. His rooms are often neutral in palette, dropping in an exuberant splash of rich colour, usually in the form of a show-stopping light or an awe-inspiring chandelier. Preston is usually inspired by ‘places I travel to, styles of homes, client’s personal style and cultures around the world. A worldly designer creates something for the client that’s both unique and timeless.

He now designs for many luxurious designers including Jennifer Dyer, who helped him design the beautiful boudoir-esque interiors of her house for Top Designer, but he is currently working on two custom homes and a condo remodel in part of the new Las Vegas city centre in Mandarin Oriental.

Qualifying from the Fashion Institute for Design and Merchandising, Preston started his successful entrepreneurial career working at Kenneth Brown Design, before endeavouring to create his own design house at the age of 21. With a love for all things design, Preston Lee is the inspiration needed when transforming your pad. It may be a beautifully hot summer, but with rises in clothes prices coming into effect later on this year, now is the most sensible time for every shopping-addicted fashionista to invest in her autumn/winter wardrobe. We have compiled a list of our favourite Fall/Winter 2010 trends to get every head turning.

Appliqués
We are all over appliqués, and appliqués are all over our clothes this coming season, thanks to a beautiful LBD by Oscar de la Renta (oscardelarenta.com). Evocative of stained glass, the skirt is laced in appliqués and beads and is simply gorgeous. Many may say appliqués remind them of curtains, but if curtains were as luxurious as Balmain’s (balmain.com) black and gold dress, or Christopher Kane’s (net-a-porter.com/ChristopherKane) flowery black number, we would go out in curtains any day.

40’s Inspired
Floor-length stunners inspired by the 1940’s are everywhere this A/W, but it’s the shoes we are loving this winter. With a fashionably low heel (yes you heard right, the lower the better), Givency have beautiful leather pink-laced open-toe boots to make your heart, and your wallet, melt. Millionaires have got the rectangular heel down to a tee, while Miu Miu(miumiu.com) blends the heel with platforms to add a show-stopping extra to any evening outfit.

Velvet
Velvet can often be reminiscent of dire men’s suits, but used in the right way, it is bound to become your statement fabric this season. Alexander Wang (alexanderwang.com) mixed velvet with tulle to create draped and rich-coloured dresses, while Giorgio Armani (EmporioArmani.com) embraced the fabric as his underlying motif, showcasing glamorous jackets.

Electric Blue
While black is back, and skies are grey, it’s good to inject a surge of colour into our wardrobe palettes every once in a while. Burberry and Matthew Williamson’s luscious blue winter coats are enough to perk up anyone’s day and Victoria Beckham and Sonia Rykiel’s floor-length frocks will stop you needing UV clothing at night.

Fur Trims
Fur conjures up images of old films and glamour pusses, so it’s no surprise at the dawn of this year’s 1940s trend, that fur is at the forefront of the designers fabric drawer. Thakoon used the trim for dramatic effect on stunning open-toed booties, while Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel (chanel.com) took fur to another level with O.T.T levels of faux fur, showcasing the designer’s sense of humour. Miu Miu created stand-out purple coats and skirts, but the sweetest of the looks goes to Galliano, for his furry earrings and bracelets.

Boudoir
It’s time to get ultra-feminine as corsets and lacy bralettes are on the menu this A/W, making every husband and boyfriend want to reach for his wallet this season (or so we wish). Fendi and Hussein Chalayan brought moulded corsets to the forefront, fighting the midriff and legs for the bust’s place as the fashionable body part this fall.

Digital Prints
In a digital age, it’s not surprising that clothes are taking on the graphic age. Thankfully this doesn’t mean walking around with a computer attached to our skirts, as the designers have conjured up a glamorous alternative. Mixing digital prints with glamour, Matthew Williamson created an ensemble of stunning dresses, with trims of the prints to keep the look minimal. Clements Ribeiro followed suit, using lashes of colour to add a graphic finesse.

Investment Pieces
In a gloomy economic climate, wardrobes often suffer, along with our credit cards. Purchasing statement investment pieces becomes essential as whimsical buys enter a mode of the past, but it isn’t just our shopping habits that are entering the times that were. Classical buys like the signature Burberry trench and Chanel suit raced down the runway, suggesting that a timeless design is the way forward when it comes to creating economical fashion.

Draping
The sun may be shining heavily now, but come winter, we will all want to be wrapped up in front of the fireplace. For the days we do risk the winter dangers of chapped skin and snowy toes, we can be safe in assurance that we won’t be cold this fall with Missoni’s mixed layering that involved up to seven different tiers.

High-waisted trousers
It’s time to cinch in our waists before winter greets us with a stocking full of chocolate, and what better way of stylishly doing so than by investing in high-waisted trousers?
